The cover should be beautiful because it's the cover that a person who unexpectedly lands on your Instagram profile will use to decide which content to view.
If they watch more than one of your Reels, it's a good sign for the algorithms. However, I don't spend too much time on the cover. I choose a frame from the video and take a screenshot. I add it to my stories with a short, easily readable caption
